The UNJC will distribute scientific papers to the club members via email
from the author(s) after a discussion with them. The papers must be read in
advance of the meeting so students can come ready to ask questions and
participate in the discussion. Around 1 week later, at a given meeting, the
club leaders will introduce our guest speaker(s)/author(s) and begin with a
quick summary of the paper and the speaker’s work. The guest speaker
then discusses the article in their own words with the floor opening for
questions to the members. Members can ask questions about the paper, or
what life is like in the field we’re discussing that day.
Our speakers are often from the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Stanford University School of Medicine, Emory University, or the University of Chicago. These may be experts in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, oncology, or neuroscience. There are often also top-tier researchers in the field of neuroscience as a whole, who allow for students to understand their groundbreaking research and their daily lives.
